If a player’s telling me he’s having difficulty sleeping, here’s three tips I’d share as a starting point.
● Put your screens away! That means phones, laptops in bed or falling asleep with the television on.
● Slow down your breathing and heartbeat. I’d recommend some breathing exercises to slow your heart rate and brain. Deep breathing exercises, like box breathing*, really help.
● Do the same thing every night. Our players don’t have a regular bedtime because we’re on the road so much. I still recommend they develop a sleep routine. This can be as simple as brushing your teeth and washing your face. Or incorporating relaxing stretches and box breathing. The point is to do the same things every night to signal to your brain it’s time to wind down.
